BIO

Monique Gilbert started traditional quilting in 1984 in a non quilting land Belgium.  Working together with “de Kunstbank” in 1989 made her realise that a lot of work has to be done to promote Art quilts.  She coordinated Europa Quilts 1 and 2 in Leuven (Belgium) and was co-founder of Q.Art  Belgium which existed to provide a network for quilt artists living in Belgium. The group had many exhibitions in Europe and USA.

Monique uses fabric from her stash (commercial, hand dyed , silk screened, stamped, painted, antique and non-traditional).  She says: When I work on a project it is my mission to find everything I need in my stash.  It happens that therefore I have to change my initial idea and mostly it is then my best design”.  All the quilts are done by machine.  She is constantly working on new techniques and designs and her passion is to teach this to like-minded quilters.
